hello, just today i was diagnosed with UD. since i got my period at 12 i could never use a tampon as it hurt too much. i summoned up the courage to see my doctor ( im now 19) and i had an MRI which showed I have two uterus' two cervices and (drumroll please) two vaginas. this explains why i havent been able to use tampons as the tampon would just hit a wall ( septum). i have however noticed that many women on this site have been able to function normally with a complete septum, often finding that one side is larger than the other however with me this is not the case, i dont function really at all! i was just wondering if theres anybody out there with a really debiliating septum? i would love to be in a relationship one day were sex wont be an issue. im not really quite sure what my question is here, im rambling a bit , i have so many questions flooding through my mind! however i guess the main question is is there anyone out there similar to me and what did you do?

thanks for your time and any response is appreciated, even if not directly associated with my question :)

Hi Alexa!

I'm 21, and I found out that I had UD around this time last year. I experienced leaky tampons and painful sex for many years, and had almost convinced myself I was just "different" and was going to have to deal with it. I eventually did some research, found out about vaginal septums, and my gyno confirmed that it was UD; two uterus', two cervices, and two vaginas.

I immediately scheduled surgery to remove the septum in my vagina. I had the surgery in April of last year, and let me tell you; IT WAS THE BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!

Tampons work, and sex feels great! What a relief. And finding this site has been a great big help along the way!

FEEL FREE to let me know if you have any other questions, I would be happy to help!

Hi Alexa,

I am 22 and found out that I had UD at 19 years old. I had experienced bleeding even though I was using a tampon, sex was so painful but like "S" I too just thought I needed to deal with it. Until one time I after sex I experienced a lot of bleeding. So much so that I had to get my mom to help me. I went to the OB/GYN the next day and found out that I had UD with two cervixes and two vaginas. I also found out that my septum was right down the middle. One side wasn't bigger than the other which is why I had such an awful experience with sex. I talked to my doctor and she suggested that I get my septum removed. I did just that and it was the greatest decision! It was such a relief to finally have a normal sex life and be able to use tampons. If you have any questions let me know.

hi! i just joined this site and i am in the same situation you were in Alexa! i have a septum right down the middle of my vagina and i am currently faced with the decision whether or not to have it removed. i am extremelly worried about the risks involved with the surgery, particularly with scar tissue and decreased sensitivity. did you discuss these with your doctor? and have you already undergone the surgery, if you have have you experienced any of these issues? i just want to make the right choice.

Hiya! I'm also in the same position, sex is not an option! I've been with my partner 3 and a half years, he was my first sexual partner (I'm nearly 23) and sex was possible at first, uncomfortable but possible. Then in September 2011 I had a piece of skin that was blocking my cervix removed and things have been dreadful since! 3 ob gyn's later with no one believing me that something wasn't right, it took me a really intense confrontation with the final doctor who booked me in for an MRI and confirmed I had a complete vaginal septum, like, it comes out of my vagina. Both sides are too small to function at all! The doctor thinks the skin they removed was holding back my septum, as I have always known about my uterus septum and my kidney septums. So the doctor referred me to a specialist reproductive endocrinologist and I am booked in for surgery on September 19th and it cannot come quickly enough! :) I know there are risks and complications, but my septum hurts, I get shooting pains up into my miffy(s) and its really ruining my life! I know that seems dramatic! Surely a sensitive functioning vagina is better than 2 non-functioning ones? :) hope that helped :) xxx

Thank you so much for your reply Becky. And I definitely agree that one functioning one is better than two useless ones. Please let me know how your surgery goes wen you have it done! Wish you the best with it! :)

hey. im off to see a nurse on tuesday for a 7 hour appointment in hospital. she will be working with me and using dilators , we will be stretching out one side to make that side bigger and able to function properly as both sides at the moment are too small. im going to try this out as an alternative to surgery as i am on imunosupressent medication so surgery at the moment is quite risky as my chances of infection are a lot higher.best of luck becky with your surgery and let us know how it goes.
