uterus didelphys help

About Me

My name is Sarah and I am 21 years old. I found out I had uterine didelphys with a double vagina when I was 12 years old. I had started my period at 11 and immediately started having very painful periods. I then started experiencing extreme pain and had a grapefruit sized mass on the left side of my stomach, my Mother and Doctor thought I was pregnant but I had not had any type of sexual relations, really it was one of my uteruses that had been filling up with blood during the year following the start of my menstruation. I had a small incision made on the inside of my vagina to allow the blood from the other uterus to flow. I also have only one kidney, and when I was 15 I started having recurring Urinary Tract Infections, but still do not know what they are from. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a year and a half now with no luck. I was told that I would have difficulty conceiving. I have had a very hard time coping with having uterine didelpyhs, because I don't know much about my condition and until now I have not known of anyone who had the same condition as me. I would love to hear everyone elses stories!

Sarah :-)

Hi Sarah. Yes, it was naturally. We were on the waiting list for IVF (were living in the UK at the time), but I was trying alternative therapies as well. So after 2 years I gave acupuncture a go, and I think it worked, as I conceived after about 2 months of treatment, though that one ended in early miscarriage. Then again 2 years later, I tried acupuncture again, and conceived after one month of treatment, which has given us our daughter. I figured it was a much less invasive option than IVF.

Just read your intro above. Ironically, I was told I should have no problems conceiving when my UD was discovered as a teenager. But that because of the UD and one kidney, I'd have to be monitored closer when pregnant. However it did take us a while, but part of that was I was given the wrong blood pressure medication, which stopped my periods, when we first began trying to conceive.

I still get recurrent UTI's. I did have bladder reflux which was operated on when I was 4 years old, but doesn't seem to have stopped it. Think it's just a potential weakness we have with one kidney.
