So I’m 18 and on my very first gyno visit I’m sent for more tests and ultrasounds than I have ever had in my life. The news came back as 2 cervixes and 2 uteruses with a septum. I only have one vaginal opening tho... and all the things I’ve read online everyone has 2 of everything. So I really don’t know if it would be different or the same and I’m walking around blindly knowing nothing of my diagnosis because I don’t even know what to think so many thoughts are fogging up my brain. So if anyone has any advice or anything really I’d love to hear it. I’m just really down and angry at my body

Hi Allison! So there are different types of septums that you can have. There’s a vaginal septum that is right inside the vaginal opening and then there is a uterine septum that make the uterus the heart shape. It sounds like you have the uterine septum which means you shouldnt have pain when you have intercourse. That’s also why you don’t notice anything different when you wear tampons. When you have the vaginal septum, you would still bleed when you wear tampons because you have to insert the tampon into one side or the other. Uterine septum’s won’t make much of a difference to your life right now until you’re ready to have a baby. Then you’ll want to see a specialist to have it removed.
There’s literally 100s of members on the old site, definitely have a look!
Thank you for the lovely feedback because that’s exactly why I made this site!! I made it when I was about 16 (11 years ago), because when I found out there wasn’t really anything online or anyone to easily talk to. So glad it’s still helping people and really happy it’s helped you today :)
I would definitely ask why you weren’t bleeding from the side without a tampon - just to see if there’s more going on. UD comes in lots of variations, make sure they check you out fully :). But if you’re comfortable and haven’t had problems so far then that’s a really good thing! I’m really glad you found us, have a look in our old forums here https://uterusdidelphys.webs.com/apps/forums/ (there’s quite a lot of spam and junk mail, hence the move to this site, but it should be useful :)). Message any time, it’s been lovely to speak to you :)
Yes I can use tampons without any problems which is why I never thought something might be wrong down there. I definetly will come up with a list to ask my dr. I don’t go back until my annual visit (another 5 months) and with all this news at once it really overwhelmed me and I wanted answers that I couldn’t find. I really really really appreciate this site and the community my mood when from extremely sad to reassured
You honestly have just quoted me from when I found out as a teenager. I understand how you’re feeling and can only reassure you that the more you learn about your body, the easier everything becomes. That’s great you’ve not had issues with tampons though - do you find you can use one without any problems then? (Please only answer if you feel comfortable to!). It might be worth going back to the doctor and asking for more details and raising these questions in person too. I was very worried someone would think I was normal from the outside and then think I was a freak if they noticed something was different... guess what? They either haven’t noticed or don’t care one bit! :)
I feel like I’ve never had issues with tampons like some women have. I’m just afraid that sex will be difficult or hurt and I’m scared because from the outside everything seems normal i just don’t want anyone thinking I’m a freak
Hi :) it’s so good to hear from you - thank you for sharing. You’re not on your own with how you’re feeling at all. I felt the same when I found out. It sounds as though you have ‘two of everything’. ‘With a septum’ means that although you have one visible opening, you likely have a septum that starts just inside, forming two vaginas leading to your two separate cervices. For some the septum is more immediately noticeable than others (is closer to the opening). Congratulations on being diagnosed, I know it doesn’t feel completely positive right now and that’s ok but it’s so much better that you are informed about your body. Now it’s just the learning bit! Do you have questions at the moment?
